    People used to put a dead cat behind the chimney when they built a house, sort of a protective spirit thing I think, from the middle ages right through to the 1950s. In the dry heat from the chimney, but between the walls so they were protected from the flames, the cats pretty much turned to stone. A guy at art class once brought two of these cats to class for us to draw … he bought them on ebay.
